Grade 4 Vocabulary Worksheet Index

Lessons 1-36 below provide important worksheets to assist in reaching mastery of the 800+ reading words designated as "mandatory" reading vocabulary for 4th Grade students. There are 4 worksheets within each "Lesson" and are typically given one per day for Monday through Thursday in a school classroom setting. Each "Lesson" corresponds to one week in a school classroom setting. Teachers and parents working with students in a higher grade (Grade 5, 6, 7 etc), but reading at a 4th grade level, should strive to master 2 or 3 sheets daily in order to "catch-up" to grade level.. Classroom teachers should use the daily worksheet as a follow-up after teaching the daily words from the "Classroom Reading Wall" Program and can also be used for additional homework. In a private tutoring or home school setting, these worksheets are optional and can be given if the student is showing difficulty with word meaning or needs practice in sentence writing.

Words parallel the exact words listed in the Student and Classroom Reading Wall lists and have been arranged from "Most Common" at the beginning Lessons to the "Lesser Common" toward the end. This provides you the most efficient order for instruction throughout the school year. Worksheet skills include - "Definition Clues/Definition Testing" - "Scrambled Letters" - "Sentence Writing" - and "Reading Fluency" - all of which come together to further enhance word mastery. There are 4 worksheets per week which give you a total of 144 worksheets for the entire Grade 4 school year. When students can read all Grade 4 vocabulary words correctly and "fluently" (without hesitation) our research has shown students typically score in the top 10% on national standardized reading tests.
