| Lessons 1-36
below correspond to the vocabulary words used in the Grade 5 Vocabulary List and provide you with important worksheets to assist in
reaching mastery of the 700 new reading words designated as "priority
reading vocabulary" for 5th Grade students. Each lesson covers 20 new
vocabulary words and typically requires 1 week for complete mastery with
10-11 year old students. Students working in a "one-on-one"
situation with a tutor or parent can advance at much faster rate. Words have been arranged from "Most Common"
to "Least Common" according to important vowel sounds and reading
rules. To further
solidify memorization of the vocabulary words, worksheet exercises include
several skills to retain the vocabulary in the student's memory. |
These include - "Examples" - "Definition Matching" and "Sentence
Writing." We are very excited about the new format, called
"Examples" in SKILL 1.
By providing "Examples" of situations associated with the vocabulary word,
students have a visual, "real-life" circumstance to facilitate
understanding.
The "Examples" section also provides an excellent format for motivating
discussion between the class and teacher. There are 4 worksheets per
week which give a total of 144 worksheets for the entire Grade 5 school
year.
The Friday Test can be given to test vocabulary mastery and is recommended
to be part of the student's final nine-weeks reading grade.
